DMAE INFORMATION

WHAT IS ACETYLCHOLINE?

The body manufactures an important neurohormone called acetylcholine from the B vitamin choline. Acetylcholine is needed to convey motor and sensory signals from one nerve cell to the next along the nerve path. it also regulated the flow of nerve signals and is essential for all brain functions, especially memory. When there isn't enough acetylcholine in the brain and nerve cells, a person experiences symptoms ranging from depression, sluggish behavior, fatigue, slowed reflexes, muddled thinking, poor memory, nervousness and anxiety. When acetylcholine is adequately supplied, these disappear as brain and nerve functions are normalized. But when acetylcholine levels are further increased by supplementation, energy, reflexes, mental alertness, mood, memory, and learning ability often improve beyond the normal. Despite good nutrition and plenty of dietary and supplemental choline, many people (perhaps up to 75% of the population) have acetylcholine deficiencies. This generally occurs because of membrane shields, such as the blood-brain barrier which keeps toxic waste products in the circulation from entering the brain which, unfortunately, can also block some necessary substances. Choline must be converted by the liver into its lipid soluble form before it can cross these barriers and be turned into acetylcholine. if the body's ability to produce this form of choline is less than idea, acetylcholine levels are likely to be low. There is an alternative way to increase acetylcholine, however.

WHAT IS DMAE?

Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) is a safe, natural substance that easily crosses these barriers. In the brain and nerve cells it is converted first to choline and then to acetylcholine. Besides being a natural precursor of choline and acetylcholine, DMAE serves several other functions that have made it one of the most important supplements for people following life-extension programs, as well as those just interested in maintaining good health. it is a very efficient anti-oxidant and free-radical deactivator. it stabilizes lysosomes and membranes, preventing rupture of these scavenger bodies, which would result in leakage of collected toxins and protein-damaging enzymes. it reverses the formation of lipofuscin and speeds up its injection from the cells. Lipfiscin is the age-pigment that causes so-called aging spots or liver spots. This pigment also tens to clog brain and nerve cells as we age. DMAE also helps prevent sludging or clumping of red blood cells and makes more of them for carrying oxygen to the tissues. Because of its ability to improve muscle reflexes and increase oxygen efficiency, many top athletes now take it to improve performance and gain a competitive edge. DMAE is naturally found in sardines and anchovies.

HOW MUCH DMAE SHOULD BE TAKEN?

DMAE can be taken one or more times daily, but because of its ability to stimulate mental alertness, it should not be taken close to bedtime. Each capsule contains 40 mg. of DMAE. Typical doses range from 40 mg. to 200 mg. it is generally recommended to start out very slow and increase the dosage slowly (up to three to four capsules per day). We recommend taking one capsule every other day for the first week. Always take it first thing in the morning when you wake up (i.e.., at breakfast). The second and third weeks take one a day. Then increase the dosage as you like. You may take two with breakfast and two with lunch. Do not exceed four capsules a day unless under medical supervision. If minor side effects of over stimulation (restlessness, neck tension, insomnia, dull headaches, etc.) occur, then the dosage should be cut back. Then start increasing slowly again after one week at the lower dosage.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DMAE?

Other than what has been stated about increased acetylcholine levels, we cannot begin to mention the volumes of research done on DMAE. We do, however, recommend reading the following books: Life Extension by Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw, and Mind Food and Smart Pills: How to Increase Your Intelligence and Prevent Brain Aging by Ross Pelton.

Each Capsule Contains: DMAE Bitartrate - 45 mg., Vitamin B1 (Thiamine HCl) - 25 mg., Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) - 25 mg., Vitamin B3 (Nicinamide) - 25 mg., Vitamin B5 (D-Calcium Pantothenate) - 150 mg., Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine HCl) - 150 mg., Inositol - 160 mg.
